ONLY ONE DAY UNTIL IBS 2008! Get an Early Look from the K&A Experts

Posted by Steve Kleber on Feb 07, 2008

The countdown has begun. Less than one week until the most exciting tradeshow of the season. A four-day event held in Orlando, Fla., the International Builders’ Show  is one of the most popular and cutting-edge shows in the building category and 2008 is the year to break all the records.

What housing slump? There’s hope!
Registration for IBS is up 15 percent compared to 2007. NAHB also reported that the number of dealer distributors registered to attend the show jumped 37 percent year-to-date. The 2008 show will also highlight more than 1,900 exhibitors representing over 300 industry categories, demonstrating the most up-to-date innovations in home and building products and services.

Green is where it’s at
This year, IBS is dedicating one full day to green initiatives. February 14 marks the launch of the show’s “Green Day” as the NAHB officially launches its National Green Building Program and the new Certified Green Professional designation. In addition, more than 170 companies have added their products and services to the brand new “green” category for IBS exhibitors.

Hot products sizzle at the show
The Florida sun isn’t the only thing heating up the tradeshow floor. Today’s most revolutionary manufacturers are embracing Mother Nature and the ever-prevalent green movement, thus creating products that reduce our carbon footprint. Check out some of the industry’s firsts below.

“Cool” roofs
Due to a recent study that found 63 percent of consumers are motivated by lower operating and maintenance costs for green homes, MonierLifetile®, the leading concrete roof tile manufacturer, created another addition to the mounting eco-friendly movement with the launch of its Energy Efficient Roof (EER). This new system’s ventilated assembly provides a 50 percent reduction in heat penetration into the conditioned space of a home, thereby decreasing heat and energy costs by up to 22 percent as compared to an asphalt shingle roof. Going green never looked so good.

Corporate responsibility and fiber cement go hand-in-hand
Nichiha, an international leader in fiber cement technology, is demonstrating its new corporate mission of “sustainable stewardship” with the introduction of its ground-breaking fiber cement line that features five products including the:
• NichiBoard
• NichiTrim
• NichiShake
• NichiPanel
• NichiSoffit

Moreover, all Nichiha products are manufactured in the company’s new eco-friendly plant utilizing recycled materials and no added crystalline silica. These conditions provide the safest, most environmentally-friendly and highest-quality products on the market.

Hybrids are not just for cars anymore
Grand Hall®,  a worldwide leading innovator and supplier of residential and commercial gas appliances and components, will showcase its newest revelation: Eternal®.  A premier hybrid water heating system engineered to out-perform all other water heaters in the marketplace, Eternal utilizes a patented counter-flow design and multi-pass heat exchanger technology that maintains an 86 percent thermal efficiency rating with consistent pressure.

Grand Hall, is also unveiling its Eternal Direct Vent®, a water heating system that directly intakes and exhausts air outside the home allowing for cleaner indoor air quality. Combining the finest components of both tank and tankless water heating units, but without the limitations, the Eternal Direct Vent offers:
• Sealed combustion
• Increased run lengths for venting
• Twin PVC vents
• An optional remote control for the digital control pad, and
• Operates more quietly than other systems

Dedication to professional performance
Gerber Plumbing Fixtures LLC  is continuing to showcase its commitment to the trade professional with the introduction of the Toilet Pak. A comprehensive package containing all the parts needed for installation, Gerber’s Toilet Pak includes a tank, bowl, toilet seat, wax ring and flange bolts. Not to be outdone, the featured toilet in the Toilet Pak is low consumption with a two-inch flush valve and front jet flushing action.

Enhancing the perception of PVC trim products. Why “wood” you use any other trim?
KOMA Trim Products, provider of exterior trim solutions used for a variety of applications including fascias, window and door surrounds, flat panel applications, custom millwork and decorative columns and trim, will be announcing its 2007 Building Professional of the Year, Sean O’Connor. This “idea exchange program” was launched last year at IBS and recognizes one leading building professional who effectively and innovatively incorporates KOMA Trim Products into housing designs and projects.

Additionally, KOMA is introducing several new products at IBS 2008 including:
• Soffit systems
• Water tables, and,
• An extension of its popular Allure Collection of extruded PVC mouldings

Hear it from the thought leaders
It’s not all about the exhibitors at IBS. The show gathers over 300 industry experts to speak to its valued exhibitors and attendees during its educational seminars held throughout all four days of the show. For those of you dismayed by the state of the economy, the NAHB is assembling a panel discussion on “weathering an economic environment.” And that’s only the beginning. Interested in green building, customer service, technology, organization and building management, architecture and interior design, building systems or international affairs? IBS 2008 is the place to enhance your industry knowledge.

A star-studded occasion
From NASCAR superstars and magicians to industry legends like Ed Del Grande, Ron Hazelton and Lou Manfredi, IBS 2008 is like the actors’ Oscars for those of us in the home channel. And don’t forget to roll out your own red carpet; AxiPointe is offering free “Guitar Hero” all day long. So if you’ve got the skills, show them off at booth W4171.
